Leguang LG-N120. Discussion in. When i received it i just plugged in the usb cable to my latop running windows 7 ultimate and it started installing the drivers. After the drivers were installed it showed the message that the device was ready to use but all it did was keep enabling and disabling itself until i unplugged it. I went online.
I have an older HP laptop which is connecting and providing normal speeds with its internal wifi. I purchased an LG-N120 antenna so I could (hopefully) use networks while inside a concrete building. Unfortunately it just doesn't work.Well, it can see many more networks including the ones I want, with three or four bars. So far so good. But it often will show 'No Internet access', drop the connection, and even when it's working the speed is below dial-up (it's so slow that I can't even download and run speedtest.me most of the time!) About five minutes out of every hour it may run for a minute or two at 2 Mbps, then it's back to an unusable crawl. This behavior does NOT occur with the HP's internal antenna, when it's brought close enough to the wireless router to also have three or four bars.
I've installed every driver I could find, including the ones on the mini-disc that came with it, made sure the internal radio was disabled, and had no better luck. Does this sound like defective hardware, or something about my HP's USB ports that it doesn't like? (Same behavior on an Acer notebook running Win 10, incidentally).Any help or hints appreciated! Sounds more like wireless interference, especially if you are going through concrete walls.Run Xirrus Wi-Fi InspectorDownload and installIf you cannot access the internet with this PCYou will need to copy the program across to the faulty PCSave the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Thanks for the info. It's siesta time now (I'm in Greece for a while) so for the moment it's actually working.I was able to download the 21 MB Xirrus program you recommended.
A screen shot is attached. 'Plateia' is the router I use. It's showing 4 of 5 bars in the system tray. One thing I see immediately is that there are other, although weaker, networks also using channels 6 & 2.
But the problem also exists when I connect to 'conn-x940c50', the other router I have permission to use (it's my neighbor's) and it's on channels 1 & 5. So maybe that's not it.Does this shed any light?(BTW the antenna is sitting outside on the windowsill, as my stone walls are 2 ft thick here!)thanksCharles. Update: It looks like you were right! Thanks very much.
I have learned more about wifi channels this afternoon than I cared toI relocated the antenna to a partially obstructed area so it ONLY picks up my neighbor's router and one commercial one (both on Ch. 1 & 5) and now I can see speedtest.me at up to 13 Mbps! Only three bars (-70-72 dbm) but it's perfectly usable now without all the interfering channels also being received. Now, if I can just figure out what piece of hardware to buy so that I can connect the USB cable from the antenna as my 'WAN' and then re-radiate the wireless inside my stone house so my GF and I can both use our laptops at the same time. Any thoughts there?Or, if we stay hard-wired, could I just use an inexpensive 4-port USB hub and plug three cables into it (one from the antenna and one to each laptop)?
Had repeated problems with Virtual Router (especially on the Win 10 notebook) so I uninstalled it. Back to plugging in the USB cable directly to whichever computer is in use at the moment.I had hopes of using an old ZTE H108NS ADSL wireless router from the junk box, which has a USB connector on the LAN side. I tried connecting the external wireless adapter to the router's USB port, and then using the laptop wifi to connect to the router. Figured the LAN devices could talk among themselves without involving the WAN side at all.Doesn't seem to work that way, as I can't see the Internet connection.
This router does have a bridge mode but again that must be from WAN to LAN. Wonder if there's any way to reflash the firmware so it will do what I need?
